“Home is wherever you leave everything you love and you never question that it will be there when you return.”
During October, I spent every weekend celebrating homecoming! Although I am beyond exhausted, it was amazing to catch up with all of those who mean so much to us! The first stop was our Alma Mater, Clarion University. It was my first homecoming since graduating in 2015. We may stay Division III for the rest of our lives because BYE week is the BEST week! Seriously though, we were so fortunate to have BYE week fall on Clarion’s Homecoming, the place where Coach and I fell in love. At Clarion University, homecoming is called “ALF,” or Autumn Leaf Festival. It’s a week filled with amazing food vendors, a craft show, and of course, Saturday is GAMEDAY!
This year all of the parents of Coach’s teammates got together for a tailgate! Once the game began we were able to hang out in the alumni tent, which was surely a strange feeling. I wore wedges, and let’s just say it was a big mistake. Like I always say though, “beauty is pain” right?
While the football game is always a highlight, the best part of ALF is dollar-slice pizza outside of our favorite bar. I may or may not have indulged in two slices, but no regrets. I even ran into my little there! Seeing some of our closet friends was so exciting. All of Coach’s friends kept saying “I’m with the coach.” They either must really love my blog, or simply consider themselves as lucky as I do to be apart of his life! Now that we are getting old and Coach has a career, we opted out of spending the evening in Clarion and went to our friends camp.
The following weekend Coach had an away game. I spent the weekend with my best friends in our “home town.” I mean, technically our home town is 15 minutes outside of Edinboro, but we call ourselves townies anyways. My friends dragged me out of bed at 6:30 am so we could make it to “Kegs and Eggs” by 7:00 am. After Kegs and Eggs, we walked around town and enjoyed the atmosphere.
We made a pitt stop at one of the bars where we ran into our high school Spanish teacher. She’s a sweetheart and reminded me of her love for Penn State football. Coach absolutely hates PSU, but I promised her that if he ever gets a job there, I’ll get her some tickets. Later that night, all of us got together and headed out on the town. I’ll keep it short and sweet: I can’t speak for my close friends, but I am not as good as I once was.
This last weekend was Allegheny’s homecoming. On Friday a few of the other wives and myself decorated the locker room for the players. Have you ever smelled a Boys locker room? I may be slightly dramatic, but I’m not kidding when I say it’s the worse smell in the whole wide world! Eventually and miraculously I became immune, though. We were pretty proud of our work, although let’s be honest, when decorating for college boys it doesn’t take much effort. Not pictured is the bomb.com signs we made. One read: “Makin Gheny Football Great Again. Trump the Lords!” We thought it was pretty clever.
We spent the weekend with Coach’s best friend from high school and his girlfriend. Of course our families also came to the game. Typically, there are like 10 cars tailgating, but this week the parking lot was pumpin! Some of the alumni have a tradition of smashing each other on a table, which certainly made no sense to me! They failed to bring their own table, so they offered me $24 for mine. I thought it was a steal, but Coach didn’t seem too impressed when I told him about the money I had earned prior to the game. We won the game, making that our third win of the season. Although that doesn’t seem like that many, it is quite impressive for AC considering it’s more wins they have had in any season since 2011. We most definitely are on the rise! Oh, and one of coach’s lineman got a safety!
Football season is most certainly winding down! It’s such a bittersweet feeling. I hope y’all are having an amazing season, and if the cold has hit, you are staying warm! Three more games to go for us!
